What
Is The AIAA?
The American Institute of
Aeronautics and Astronautics is the world’s
largest professional organisation dedicated to the arts, sciences, and
technology of aeronautics and astronautics. It provides support and advice,
including professional seminars and networking opportunities, for anyone
even remotely involved or interested in these industries. The Adelaide
Branch was the second in Australia, and board members include professionals from DSTO
and BAE Systems amongst other Aerospace related companies.
Student
Membership of the AIAA is
US$20 per year and includes the AIAA's monthly
publication ‘Aerospace America’ and the quarterly AIAA Student Journal. The
easiest way to become a Student Member of the AIAA is to signup online.
The
University of Adelaide Student Branch
The
AIAA student branch, otherwise known as the Adelaide Uni Aerospace Club, is
basically a group of people with shared interests in aeronautics and/or
astronautics. Here is a list of the kind of events we organise for our
members:
-
Career Seminars
-
Guest speakers from industry
-
Tours of the RAAF base Edinburgh
-
Trips to Woomera to watch rocket launches
-
Trips to the Avalon Airshow in Victoria
Throughout
the year we will also keep you up to date with aerospace related talks,
competitions or conferences happening locally or overseas through our
mailing list.
While
most AIAA student branch members are engineering students, other
disciplines are always welcome. Biology, chemistry, physics and even
commerce students join just because they like aerospace and recognise its
relevance.
