Current cutting-edge active noise control strategies require knowledge of modal vibration characteristics. While this is straightforward for simple laboratory-based structures, such knowledge for large and complex structures, such as transformers, is difficult to obtain. The aim of this project is to overcome this limitation, to develop an approach to sensing system designthat does not require detailed structural knowledge. is to model the sound field as though it originated from a set of basic acoustic sources, an idea so general that itcan cover all possible cases. In essence, sound field characteristics are being used to model complex vibration instead of vice versa.
