Acoustic Chambers
Reverberation Rooms
The School has two reverberation chambers for use in sound
transmission loss testing and sound aborption testing.
For sound transmission loss testing, the sample is installed
in a hole in the wall between the two rooms.
Sound in the source room will then pass through the test sample into
the receiver room,
where a traversing microphone or fixed microphones measure the sound
pressure level in the room.
Source Room
The source and receiver rooms are used for transmission loss testing.
These facilities are used for research, development and can be hired
for use.

Receiver Room
The receiver room is used for acoustic transmission loss, noise reduction, insertion loss testing, as well as measurement of sound power from articles. The room as several static diffusers and a rotating diffuser which is used to better dispurse the sound in the chamber to create a uniform sound field.

Anechoic Room
The anechoic room is used to measure acoustic radiation patterns
from objects and when a quiet measurement environment is required. The room has aluminium floor plates that can be removed to help reduce reflections from the floor.
