THE BERNARD LEWIS FELLOWSHIPS

The purpose of The Bernard Lewis Endowment Fund is to undertake or seed projects that will further education and encourage research in combustion.

The Bernard Lewis Fellowship was established to encourage high quality research in combustion by young scientists and engineers. These Fellowships are to be awarded at each International Combustion Symposium to no more than five recipients. Recipients must be (1) either students or combustion scientists who have received their last educational degree within three years, (2) an author of a paper accepted for the Thirty-Second Combustion Symposium, and (3) a member of the Combustion Institute. The Fellowship will consist of a cash award of $500, waiver of the registration fee at the 32nd symposium, participation of the Wednesday outing and Thursday banquet, designated accommodation while attending the Symposium, a copy of the Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, Vol. 32, and a one-year subscription of Combustion and Flame. The awardees will also be recognized in the Book of Abstracts.

Nomination for the Fellowship is to be made by a member of The Combustion Institute who is familiar with the accomplishments of the nominee. The nominee must verify his membership in the Institute and attendance at the Symposium.

The nomination package must include:
1. A cover letter by the nominator that acts as a letter of recommendation
2. A nominee information package including:
a. Name and current mailing address
b. Affiliation and position
c. Current educational vitae
d. A list of the most important publications and accomplishments within the last 3 years (restricted to 2 pages)
3. Nominations must be received in the office of The Combustion Institute by May 1, 2008
