Postgraduate Research Communication Workshops in the ECMS Faculty

Semester 2 2009

The Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences offers workshops designed for postgraduate students who are expected to write and speak about their research in Applied Sciences and Mathematics disciplines. Several Schools within the Faculty require postgraduate research candidates to attend some or all of these workshops as part of their Structured Programs. See your Postgraduate Coordinator to find out if this is the case in your School.

Description: This workshop focuses on the structure, information flow and language of a research proposal, with particular emphasis placed on the literature review and statement of research objectives.

Gap Presentation

Workshop: Gap Presentation
Participants: Participants in previous Producing a Research Proposal workshop
Max. number: 8
Description: This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to present their gap statement(s) to the group for feedback and clarification. Experience has shown that this exercise is a useful tool for promoting progress with proposal writing.
Requirements: Each participant to present a 5 minute summary of their research gap, drawing links to existing, relevant literature on their topic.
