Computing Acceptable Usage Policy

The University of Adelaide has an acceptable use policy which must be adhered by all staff, students and visitors that use the University of Adelaide and / or School of Mechanical Engineering IT equipment. The equipment should only be used activities relating to University business.

Illegal software is not allowed on Mechanical Engineering computers. If we find such software on your PC we will ask you to prove it is properly licensed and legal. If you cannot do this, the software will be removed and other action may be taken. We will not provide support for PCs with illegal software on them- don't even ask.

You should not store media files (eg. videos, music) for which you do not own the copyright on or have appropriate permission to use on Mechanical Engingeering PCs. This includes personal music collections and the like. We will remove these if found, and further action may be taken.

You must contact us if you wish to connect ANY devices to the Mechanical Engineering network or alter the network settings (eg. IP address) on any existing PC on the network. Failure to do this causes considerable disruption to other users on the network, and wastes a great deal of time as we track down the intruder. Further action will be taken against you should you do this.

Due to the potential for misuse, file trading software (eg. major peer-to-peer downloading software) may not be installed on your PC.Should you require such software for activities relating to the Schoolof Mechanical Engineering, you need to seek permission from us beforehand. Please don't ask unless you absolutely require this software for your work.

Internet access is provided for activities related to the School of Mechanical Engineering only. As a school we are charged for access to the Internet. Should your access be excessive you will be asked to justify how your access related to School activities and if you can not, the excess charges for Internet Access may be passed on to you at the School's discretion.

Accounts and access may be disabled or downgraded for a time at the discretion of the School for breach of these rules.
